Latest information concerning the transition from ISO/TS 16949 to IATF 16949
ISO/TS 16949 has established its status as global quality standard in the automotive industry in recent years, largely replacing previously widespread automotive standards such as VDA 6.1, EAQF, AVSQ, QS-9000 etc.
IATF 16949 to replace ISO/TS 16949
As announced by the IATF (International Automotive Task Force) in August, the new automotive standard, known as IATF 16949, will be published in October 2016.
The announcement (available on the IATF website) states that the certification rules for IATF 16949 will be published in November 2016. Furthermore it presents regulations governing the transition strategy from ISO/TS 16949:2009 to IATF 16949.
The transition phase to IATF 16949 will span 23 months from publication of the new standard in October 2016 to the end of the certification validity period on September 14, 2018. Assuming all preconditions are fulfilled (proof of organization’s conformity under IATF 16949, qualification of certification auditors etc.), organizations could begin their transition from October 2016.
