The current mandatory safety standards for infant walkers (listed in 16 CFR 1216) and infant swings (listed in 16 CFR 1223) require addressed products to comply with applicable ASTM standards with some CPSC modifications. These ASTM standards are ASTM F977-07 for infant walkers and ASTM F2088-12a for infant swings. The ASTM later released revisions of both standards, which included all modifications addressed by the CPSC in 16 CFR 1216 and 16 CFR 1223.
Now the CPSC is revising their safety standards to incorporate these most recent versions of applicable ASTM standards (ASTM F977-12 for infant walkers and ASTM F2088-13 for infant swings) in the Code of Federal Regulation (CFR). The revisions will take effect on Oct 7, 2013. Testing requirements for both infant walkers and infant swings will remain unchanged.
