Labelling board of Thailand’s Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) has recently officially announced1 the new labelling requirements for liquid chemical inside mobile phone, tablet and computer cases. Effective 8 July 2018, such cases must carry a label with the warning “Danger liquid leakage” for containing decane, nonane, heptane and oxalic acid or other acid chemicals.
The warning text must be presented with a different colour other than the product, in a larger font size than other characters, and be displayed on the product in a durable manner.
Thailand notified World Trade Organisation (WTO) in January this year for introducing new measures on such newly designed electronic cases. Reports received for chemical burns due to leakages. After consultation, the OCPB decided manufacturers are obligated to disclose such information to consumers.
