On 27 October 2017, ASTM released a revision of F2057-171 - Standard Safety Specification for Clothing Storage Units replacing its previous edition F2057-14. In this revision, there are no changes in physical and mechanical safety testing. The revision is mainly on the warning labelling requirement.
Key changes are highlighted as follows.
1) The warning label now includes a black slash circle symbol inside it shows a pictorial of a children climbing a clothing storage unit on white background.
2) Adding reference to ANSI Z535.4 and ASTM D3359
3) Addition of label permanency testing and requirements
Details of permanency testing and requirements-
The warning label shall be considered permanent if
(i) any attempt to remove it without the use of tools or solvents cannot remove it, or
(ii) it (paper label only, not for non-paper label) tears into pieces upon removal, or
(iii) the surface to which it is attached is damaged consequently.
In additions, if the warning labels are applied directly onto the product surface, an adhesion test according to test method B – Cross-Cut Tape test of ASTM D3359 will be performed. The warning statements shall be considered permanent if the printing is still legible and attached after this adhesion test.
