On 8 August 2013, the Brazil National Institute of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality (INMETRO) launched a public consultation for the adoption of a technical regulation on energy efficiency and safety requirements for televisions. The rules were approved on 10 September 2014, and became effective immediately following publication in the country's official gazette.

Area of alignment
Measurement of electrical power consumption in standby mode(s) and other low power modes (off mode and network mode
ABNT NBR IEC 60065:2009
Requirements for marking, insulation, components, electrical connections and fixings, protection against ionizing radiation, resistance to heating, mechanical strength and stability, etc.
Graphical symbols used to identify equipment or a part of equipment, to indicate functional states, designate connections, to provide information on packaging or instruction for the operation of the equipment
Safety aspects of power transformers, power supplies, reactors and similar products such as electrical, thermal and mechanical safety, etc.
